General Information:
I preached this sermon on Sunday morning, 1-15-12 at Lafayette Bible Chapel in Lafayette, Louisiana  USA.

Sermon Title: God’s Final End-Time Prophecies to Daniel and to Us

Sermon Passage: Daniel 11:36-12:13

Sermon Purpose: Finish reading every verse of the text of the Book of Daniel and summarize the end-time prophecies in the final 2 chapters of the book.

Overall Evaluation:
Although I taught, instead of preached, a lot of the Book of Daniel, I feel I opened it up for some folks who had never studied or read it as well as gave some good study points for people who had read or studied it before. I make no apology that I and the church I am preaching at approach Scripture from a traditional Pre-Millennial, Dispensational viewpoint.  Having said that, I think I included other aspects in these last verses that would encourage and challenge someone from another theological system, such as the evangelism challenge at the end.

1. Powerpoint visuals and charts
2. The video clip from U-Tube on the increase of knowledge in our day.
3. The evangelistic challenge at the end.
4. The unexpected NT challenge from 1 Peter 5 about our attitudes as Christians gave a much-needed break from the non-stop prophecies.

1. Leaving out the explanation of many verses may have created more questions in some people’s minds than was helpful.
2. Once again a long, teaching sermon! But the Book of Daniel is done! Whew! Smile
3. The use of standard Pre-Millennial terms was not as user-friendly for those who had not heard them before.

You will notice at the end of each sermon manuscript, I usually include a section called “Extras”. That is where I put good material that I have cut out of the sermon in order to shorten and tighten it.  This “Extras” material is also good for more serious Bible students who often want to dig a little deeper on certain questions than my sermon will allow. By putting this material at the end, other folks who are not interested in it can skip it all together. This is like watching the Extras on a DVD of scenes deleted from a movie! Smile The sermon is always better without this info. I’m sure in the Daniel series, I could have strengthened each sermon by putting even more things cut out from the sermon in this section.

The grades I give myself on this sermon:
Number grade:
[on a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (high)]: 7.5
Letter grade:
[A (high) and F (low)]: C

*A lesson you can learn from this sermon:
I used a short video clip in this sermon from U-Tube. It’s the only video I used in the Daniel series or that I have used so far at this church.  Too many videos can become a crutch for poor preaching.  I know a USA pastor who used 3—count ‘em THREE!—video clips from one movie in one sermon. I guarantee you, by the start of the 3rd clip I would have been heading for the exit!
Frown Use videos rarely but well in your sermons and they will add just the right touch, like I tried to use here to illustrate Daniel’s prophecy of the incredible increase in knowledge in the last days. If you have any doubt about a video, don’t ever use it!
